How do "older" students apply?

I am a 39 year old, who wishes to attend FMU, if possible.  I graduated from high school in 1986.  My grades in school were not "all that great", due to my immaturity at the time.  I have since found out that I have a "gifted" IQ, and should have been in "gifted" classes (no wonder school was so boring).  My question is:  How do I go about applying for admissions?

I'm assuming I need to take the SAT exam.  Do you offer "life experience" credits?  My field of "expertise" (for lack of a better term), is in Early Childhood Education.  I have a Child Development Associate Certificate, which is good for 6 credits according to the "Council for Professional Recognition" in Washington, DC.

Is there some type of program for adults who wish to return to school?  Are there entrance exams I'll need to take other than the SAT?  I'm assuming there is a counselor available to help me sort through all of this.  Needless to say, things have changed much since 1986.  I don't even know where to begin...

Thank your for any helpful information.

Re: How do "older" students apply?

Hmmm.... First, you will need to apply for admission and send your high school transcript. If you have been to any college since you graduated, you will also need those transcripts. If you have not been to college we will need to get a letter of intent from you (stating what you plan to do, your career aspirations, what you have done since high school, etc) and you will need to take the English placement exam. SAT scores may not be required, but I would have to see your entire file before making that determination.

I hope this helps!
