Nursing Program Admissions

Please indicate how admission to the BSN program is handled at FMU.   Admission to the program when admission to FMU is approved the Freshman year or do you have to do 2 years of Gen.Ed classes and then apply to get into the Nursing program at the end of the Sophmore year?

If it is the second, how many pre-Nursing students do you have this year and how many openings for the actual Nursing program will be available.  The question is, now many pre-nursing students go through 2 years of classes and don't get into the nursing school becuase there aren't enough openings? (I have found this happens at MANY schools - want to know the statistics for FMU on this issue). Thanks.

Re: Nursing Program Admissions

It is the second scenario you listed above.  The actual percentage of students who start at FMU as pre-nursing but do not get into the program is fairly high. This is because nursing is going to be very competitive anywhere you go. If you find a school that has a high percentage of students who get into their program, it is probably not the greatest program. We have students from all over trying to get into our nursing program, as does every other nursing program that I know of.

Essentially, if you do well (3.2 or better) once you start at a college or university, you should not have a problem. Students who are right at 3.0 or below are going to find it much tougher.
