Francis Marion Academic Distinction Scholarship
Award = $1,000-$1,500
The Distinction scholarship is automatically awarded to first-year students who have been accepted to Francis Marion University prior to May 1 of the student’s senior year.
To be eligible, you must have the following:
- 3.0 GPA
- 1100 SAT or 24 ACT
- Admitted to FMU
This award is renewable for 4 years by completing 30 semester hours a year and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
Students awarded this scholarship are encouraged to apply for the Fellows or Patriot Scholarship by completing our online scholarship application.
Francis Marion Academic Fellows Scholarship
Award = $2,000 - $2,500
The Fellows scholarship is awarded after the on-line scholarship application has been received and upon the recommendation of faculty and student on-campus interviews. This award given is an additional $1000-$1500 to the Distinction scholarships awarded at the time of admission. The award is renewable for 4 years with the student completing 30 semester hours a year and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
To be eligible, you must have:
- A GPA of 3.0 and above
- SAT of 1100 or 24 ACT
- Invitation to on-campus faculty interview

Francis Marion Academic Patriot Scholarship
Award = $5,000
The Patriot scholarship is our most prestigious campus scholarship. It is awarded after the on-line scholarship application has been received and upon the recommendation of faculty and student on-campus interviews. This award given is an additional $4,000 to the Distinction scholarship awarded at the time of admission. The award caps at $5,000 per academic year and is renewable for students for 4 years by completing 30 semester hours a year and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
To be eligible, you must have:
- A GPA of 3.0 and above
- SAT of 1100 or 24 ACT
- Invitation to on-campus faculty interview
- Top 3% of students interviewed

Francis Marion Teaching Fellow Scholarship
Award=$5,000
The Francis Marion Teaching Fellows scholarship is awarded after online scholarship application received and on-campus faculty interview. This scholarship is given to students who are a part of the Teacher Cadet program in S.C. However, preference is given to Teacher Cadets sponsored by FMU.
To be eligible, you must have:
- 1200 SAT (critical reading and math) or 27 ACT composite score(s)
- Invitation to on-campus faculty interview
- Must be part of a Teacher Cadet program in South Carolina

For the 2009 – 2010 school year, over 350 students were considered for the scholarships listed above. The university is pleased to recognize these students. They represent 17% of our first-year class and contribute greatly to the academic and student life opportunities at Francis Marion.
These awards are renewable for a total of four years provided the recipient completes 30 semester hours each year and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
